Lincoln, Neb. —The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has a variety of options available for students, faculty and staff in need financial or mental health supports due to the ongoing threat of the 2019 novel coronavirus.

Students

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid has assembled a list of contacts and resources for current, incoming and former students in need of financial support. The list includes information on loans and loan repayment, scholarships, financial aid and refunds. Students are encouraged to contact Husker Hub at huskerhub@unl.edu or 402-472-2030 to discuss their situation and needs.

Students living in the Lincoln area who are unable to access affordable meals can contact Student Affairs at studentaffairs@unl.edu for assistance. Though the Husker Pantry is currently closed, free meal vouchers are available and can be obtained so that students can eat in campus dining centers.

Those in need of mental health resources can schedule a remote appointment with Counseling and Psychological Services either by Zoom or over the phone. Students can make an appointment by calling 402-472-7450 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. After business hours, students with urgent needs can speak to a counselor by calling 402-472-7450 and pressing 4.

Faculty and staff

Nebraska’s Employee Assistance Program offers an emergency fund for non-probationary, regular university employees to use in times of financial hardship. Employees may apply for up to $750. All money borrowed is interest-free and paid back into the fund by payroll deduction.

The University of Nebraska has a separate, additional emergency fund in place for employees and students in need of financial assistance.

All university employees — including students — can also access up to 160 hours of paid emergency leave in light of COVID-19.

For mental health services, employees can make an appointment with an Employee Assistance Program counselor by calling 402-472-3107 or emailing eap@unl.edu.

Employees, students and members of the public can receive free legal help with issues like eviction, debt collection, employee rights and more by calling the COVID-19 Disaster Relief Hotline at 1-844-268-5627. The hotline is hosted by Legal Aid of Nebraska in partnership with the Nebraska State Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project.
