Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I decided to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln because I fell head over heels for East Campus and felt really at home here.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

My favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the support I receive from the faculty in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture and the friends I have made that have become my extended family.

How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?

Diversity and inclusive excellence have played a role in my CASNR experience by allowing me to hear multiple perspectives on different agricultural topics and issues. I’ve also been able to meet people from all over the world and bond over our knowledge and love for agriculture and natural resources.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

My favorite class that I have taken so far is organic farming and food systems with Professor Chuck Francis. It really helped me to take a step back and look at what can be done to improve agriculture here in the United States and how we can give back to nature.

What are your plans post-graduation?

My plans post-graduation are to help prevent food insecurity in underserved communities by providing urban agriculture education through classes and hands-on community gardening. I want to help others help themselves.

What’s life like outside of school?

My life outside of school is filled with time spent with my wonderful friends and boyfriend, my little dog named Oscar, and teaching third through fifth graders about plants and creative writing. I also spend quite a bit of time outside hiking, hammocking and laying in the grass.

Christine has received the following scholarships: the George Beadle Scholarship, the Wayne C. Whitney Memorial Scholarship, the Clara S. Tillotson Memorial Scholarship and the Martin Massengale Outstanding Senior Award.
