Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
From my friends that were already students here, I learned that UNL could be my home away from home. With opportunities to be a part of a global learning community and get enough hands-on experiential learning, I was convinced that this is a great opportunity for my growth both professionally and personally. When I earned the scholarship, it was a dream come true!
What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I definitely love the vastness of the community at UNL. I get a chance to meet all people from all backgrounds and hope to learn a thing or two from each, despite the difference. It is the diversity and the beautiful campus that adds to a feeling of being home for me. This helps even my academics to go smoothly.
How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?
It gave me a chance to feel confident and free to express my thoughts and navigate through my academic space knowing that I am heard and that I matter. This, as an international student, is crucial for my college experience.
What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
For now, I would say my Applied Calculus Math class was my favorite. This is simply because the rather complicated math was made easier for me to understand. I definitely loved this class.
What are your plans post-graduation?
My plan is to go back to Rwanda and impact my community with both my skill and talent. I want to be a part of a team that will help revolutionize the agriculture industry back home.
What’s life like outside of school?
Outside of school, I am a part of the Navigators, and I am a lead vocalist in Live Lyve Band. We do Afrobeat and urban music all live. We have so far performed at events, peaceful protests and other functions. Besides that, I enjoy writing poetry, reading and most of the time I am spending good quality time connecting with my friends. I attend church at Christ Place, and it is a very beautiful community that has helped me connect more and feel at home in Nebraska.
