Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I actually grew up thinking I wanted to go to college out of state. Through my involvement in FFA, I knew some great people I had connected with in high school were going to Lincoln. Once I decided I wanted to pursue a professional career in agriculture I knew there was no better place than CASNR at UNL.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I love the people I have met at UNL. Whether it be a classmate or staff member, there are so many people who have invested in my academic and personal growth. I feel blessed to attend a University that cares for their students and encourages a tight-knit community.

How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?

Throughout my time in CASNR, I have consistently been challenged to look at issues from a different perspective. This has undoubtedly allowed me to analyze issues the agricultural industry is facing and see it from a multitude of angles. There are such fantastic opportunities to get involved all throughout campus. I have created relationships at UNL I am sure will last a lifetime with people from all over the country and world.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

It's honestly so hard to narrow it down. I loved EAEP 101 with Tom Field. That was the first class that encouraged me to challenge the status quo and think critically about the legacy I wanted to leave. It was a game-changer for me. I also really enjoyed ALEC 341, which was a podcasting course. It was a fun skill to develop and has come in handy in a lot of ways through different internships and projects.

What are your plans post-graduation?

I want to pursue a career in international agriculture and/or rural community development, possibly working with nonprofits to better serve rural communities across the world. I am confident that the skills I have developed here at UNL have prepared me for a variety of different professional roles.

What’s life like outside of school?

Outside of class, I am involved in Sigma Alpha, Engler Entrepreneurship Program, and UNL Collegiate Farm Bureau. Lately, my spare time has been well spent celebrating the holiday season with family and friends, drinking lots of hot cocoa, and planning my next travel adventure!
