Why did you decide to come to UNL?
On my first visit during high school, I knew that UNL was exactly the place for me. Not only did it have everything that I could desire in a college (a renowned agricultural college, a great biochemistry department and a top-notch honors program), but I felt an indescribable connection to the university as a whole. I chose UNL because I knew that this was the university with the most potential to help me to realize my own potential and grow me into an engaged scholar.

What is your favorite thing about UNL?
My favorite thing about UNL is the opportunity that it presents to all of its students. Throughout my three years here, I have had so many opportunities available to get involved, meet lifelong friends and develop my education. I am grateful every day for the connections and friendships that my college experience has given me, and I find it fascinating how each component of my UNL life has given me the chance to grow in one way or another.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
My favorite class(es) at UNL have been my two biochemistry lectures, BIOC 431 and 432. Throughout my first two years, I had only gotten to study biology and chemistry in separate classes, and to see those two realms of study converge into one set of classes was very interesting. I am fascinated at how the world operates on such an infinitesimal level, and how biochemical reactions between just a few elements drive the functionality of nearly everything in life. While both challenging and rewarding, my biochemistry lectures gave me an appreciation for the complexity of life.

What are your plans post-graduation?
Following graduation, I hope to attend medical school and continue down my path toward becoming a physician. As a medical doctor, I hope to practice in Nebraska. This state is full of wonderful people, and I hope to give back to a community such as the one that has helped me grow into who I am today.

What's life like outside of school?
When I'm not studying, I enjoy hanging out with friends, watching movies and engaging in photography. I also work at a nursing home in rural Nebraska, which has been a very rewarding experience. Outside of that, I love spending time with my family and helping out on the farm back home whenever I can.
