Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

Deciding where I wanted to attend college was a difficult decision for me. I didn’t know if I wanted a large university or a small college. I also was unsure in what I wanted to major in. I eventually realized that Nebraska would be the best place for me to take a variety of classes to figure out what I wanted to do and still keep me on track to graduate in four years. I can confidently say that it was the right decision, and I can’t picture myself anywhere else.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I love that I got the ability to create the environment and experiences that are best for me. I had plenty of opportunities and resources to help me set my own unique path to chase my dreams. No matter what interest I had, there was always a club or organization that I could join to get involved, learn more about the subject, and surround myself with people who were also passionate about the same thing.

How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?

CASNR has challenged me to grow in my thoughts and opinions. I love hearing other people’s stories about how they grew up, challenges they have had, and their point of view towards different situations. The diversity in CASNR has taken my learning beyond the classroom. I have been pushed outside of my comfort zone to meet and work with people from many different backgrounds. It has taught me to be more insightful and to think more critically.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far, and why?

I really enjoy learning and there have been several classes that I have loved. There are two that have impacted me the most; AECN436 Commodity Price Forecasting and ECON312 Intermediate Microeconomics. The professors are excellent teachers and the material is directly related to the career I want to pursue after graduation.

What are your plans, post-graduation?

I have accepted a grain merchandising position with The Scoular Grain Company in Omaha. I am super excited to enter their BMD program and spend the first two years travelling and learning from different facilities.

What’s life like outside of school?

I am not very good at relaxing so I keep myself plenty busy in my free time. I have several jobs: a teaching assistant for two classes, a research assistant, and a CASNR ambassador. Usually I am helping out with an event on campus, grading papers, or working on my research. I also love to travel, and if I am not on a road trip then I am planning one. You can also find me spending time with friends or going home to help on my family’s farm.
