Why did you decide to come to UNL?
Coming from a high school class of 28, I decided to come to UNL to be a part of a bigger school and to be able to experience many different aspects of college. My dad went to college at UNL, and he always told me how much he enjoyed it, so that helped my decision. After being uncertain about what I wanted to go to college for, I researched the food science program and I was attracted to what UNL had to offer. I wanted to learn more about their food science department and so I chose to go to the University.

What is your favorite thing about UNL?
My favorite thing about UNL is the CASNR family. I love how much everyone cares about you even if they hardly know you. I enjoy getting to know my professors and having them call me by name. There are many different opportunities to meet new people and get involved in organizations and clubs, so it doesn't take long to fit in.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
I am currently in a fruits and vegetables processing class, and I am enjoying the material that is being taught. Growing up on a farm and spending time with my mom planting and harvesting our garden, I feel like this class takes it a step further and explains the different processes that go behind the fruits and vegetables we consume. Not to mention the labs are pretty cool. We do different processing techniques, which offer hands-on experience to gain knowledge about the machines. We also learn different ways to handle fruits and vegetables during processing.

What are your plans post-graduation?
My plans for post graduation would be to work in the food industry in the area of product development.

What’s life like outside of school?
Life outside of school consists of me working two part-time jobs along with balancing my academics. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends when I have some down time away from school. It's always a good feeling to go back home to our farm where I can spend countless hours outside. I enjoy baking, sewing, fishing and running outside when the crazy Nebraska weather is warm!
