Tommy Sheets Headlines Annual Horsin' Around Conference at UNL

LINCOLN, Neb. — Tommy Sheets will headline the 22nd annual "Horsin' Around" conference Feb. 8-9 in the RB Warren Arena at the Animal Science Complex on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus.

 Sheets is a professional All-Around-Horseman from New Albany, Ind.

He has been in the horse business most of his life, with many World Champions, Reserve World Champions and 40 Congress wins on his resume.

He was the 1996 American Quarter Horse GMC Sr. All-Around Champion with Zippos LTD and 2007 AQHA Sooner Jr. All-Around Champion with Good for the Ladys.

He has 15 total AQHA National Honor Roll Champion's titles in western pleasure, reining, western riding and trail and performance halter. He has earned over 7,000 AQHA points and has been a six time AQHA Team Wrangler Member.

"This will be his first trip to Nebraska," Anderson said. "And he brings to Horsin' Around his unique, detailed and precise methods to produce top horses and riders for a multitude of events."

Also speaking at the event will be equine extension specialist Lena Cottle and extension horse specialist Kathy Anderson.

Cottle oversees and develops horse-related youth extension and outreach at UNL. She is responsible for the 4-H Horse Stampede, district and state 4-H horse shows, 4-H horse show judges' clinics and other youth-related activities. She also teaches equine courses in UNL's animal science department.

Anderson has been at UNL since 1991 and teaches equine-related courses including Equine Reproduction, Equine Nutrition, Horse Management, Horse Evaluation and Horse Industry Study tour, all in UNL's animal science department. She is also the coach for the UNL Horse Judging Team.

The conference begins at 9 a.m. both days and is open to participants of all ages. Adult registration is $30 for both days or $20 for one day. For youth 18 and under, the cost is $20 for both days or $15 for one day. If the clinic doesn't sell out, registration will be available at the door for adults at $40 for both days and $25 for one day and for youth at $30 for both days and $20 for one day.
