Lincoln, Neb. — On Thursday, April 25, a replacement sign for the digital signboard at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center (PREEC) in Scottsbluff was installed.
“We replaced the sign out by the highway (71). We replaced the digital board (the top portion of the sign) because the hardware and software supporting it had become obsolete and could not be updated. So we decided to put something up to represent the University of Nebraska in place of the message board,” said Cardinal Farrington, the center's facilities manager. The big N will not be the only signage replaced or added. This year, there will also be some new signage at the High Plains Ag Lab in Sidney, at the research feedlot in Mitchell, and at the research farm in Mitchell. There will also be additional signage at the Scottsbluff location directing people to Scotts Bluff County Extension and ESU 13 offices in the back (west end of the building).
The new sign was built and placed by Creative Signs of Gering. It is a big red “N” on a black background, and it has lights inside so it will be visible to drivers at night. The base of the sign has not changed and still lists the UNL Extension, Troop E Headquarters, and ESU13 Head Start.
