Throughout 2025, the University of Nebraska Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center near Mead, NE hosted more than 5,300 visitors. A report details the broad range of visits and learning opportunities.
Engagement with students of all ages included tours, visits, training programs, field days, clinics, classes, as well as FFA and 4‑H education. Many sessions focused on applied research such as nitrogen management, soil health assessment, grazing strategies, feedlot innovation, and precision agriculture. The Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center served as a major focal point.
The completion of the NFarms facility at ENREEC was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony. This milestone provides a new hub for advancing research on new technologies/tools & fostering partnerships in ag. Another notable highlight of 2025 included a visit from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, to gain insight into ongoing ag research at UNL and discuss industry challenges with some of Nebraska's ag leaders.
ENREEC welcomed a wide range of visitors from nearby and across the state, as well as national and international delegations from Australia, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The focus of many visits was to learn about Nebraska agriculture, beef and crop production systems, phenotyping and technology, carbon sequestration research, and on‑farm research collaborations. Industry groups, government officials, university partners, and agricultural organizations explored partnerships, production systems and innovation.
ENREEC also oversees Barta Brothers Ranch (near Rose, NE), Haskell Agricultural Laboratory (near Concord, NE), and the South Central Ag Lab (near Clay Center, NE). Programs and learning opportunities were tailored specific to needs of their regions to share research-driven agricultural education opportunities throughout 2025.
