Nebraska Water Leaders Academy accepts four CASNR alums into seventh class

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska Water Leaders Academy has accepted its seventh and largest class to date. Nineteen men and women, including four CASNR graduates, from across the state have been accepted into the one-year program that provides leadership training and educates participants about the vital role that rivers, streams and aquifers play in the economic sustainability of the state.

Included are CASNR graduates: Ben Beckman who earned a B.S. in grassland ecology and management and an M.S. in agronomy. He is a research and extension communication specialist with the Nebraska Water Center/Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute in Lincoln;  Brenda Densmore, who earned a B.S. in the science of fisheries and wildlife and an M.S. in natural resources with emphasis in aquatic ecology. She is a hydrologist with the U. S. Geological Survey in Lincoln; Kile Hauschild, who earned a B.S. in environmental studies and a concentration in natural resources. He is a storm water/floodplain specialist with the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District in Lincoln; and John Miller, who earned a B.S. in natural resources, and is natural resources program specialist with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources in Lincoln.

A project of the Water Futures Partnership-Nebraska, Academy sessions feature classroom as well as field trip experiences presented by acknowledged experts in leadership and natural resource topics held at locations across the state.

The Water Leaders Academy is partially funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust and more than 25 other organizations and individuals.
