Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

When I graduated high school, I got a scholarship to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and I didn't hesitate to take the opportunity of studying abroad.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

People are my favorite thing about UNL. The helping culture helped me to thrive through my first weeks in the United States. The very first interactions I had have influenced me to get involved in ASUN-Student Government. From there, my horizons never cease to expand.

I have loved how humble the faculty and staff are and willing to help you in all the ways possible.

How has diversity and inclusive excellence played a role in your CASNR experience?

Diversity and inclusive excellence have allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. As a result, I was able to get involved in different organizations which brought me so much growth. I have created connections and have gotten experiences that I would not get from classes.

The sense of belonging is what the CASNR community provided me and that made my experience even better.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

My favorite class has been ALEC 102 with Nebraska Human Resources Institute Leadership Mentoring. The class was about how to be good mentors through investing in meaningful relationships with our mentees and applying the same concepts in our daily lives. This generally helped me nurture my relationships. The greatest takeaway for me was about active listening. “We should listen to understand not to reply.”

What are your plans post-graduation?

I am still deciding if I should go to grad school right away or take a little break with having some real-world experiences instead.

What’s life like outside of school?

It is hard for me to say that I am free even during breaks. That is mainly because I am super involved in different organizations on and off campus. Besides that, I love listening to classical music, singing, playing some piano and connecting with people. Also, I have a great passion for vegetable production in vertical farming (hydroponics). Whenever I get a chance, I talk or do something related to that. I would love more time for a movie.

Mark has received the following scholarships: College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Undergraduate Scholar Program (CUSP), Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) and IANR ARD Undergraduate Student Research Award.
