July 17, 2015

Lincoln, Neb. — Free Tree Board trainings from the Nebraska Forest Service will be offered throughout the state this summer to help Tree Board members, administrators and volunteers work more effectively in their communities.

Urban forests are being challenged by exotic pests, weather extremes and budget cuts. These workshops are aimed at helping Tree Board members understand their role in community planning, learn how to evaluate and care for community forests and do public outreach to recognize the many benefits trees offer in urban settings.

Trainings will take place from 5-8:30 p.m. (register at 4:30 and meal included) at the following locations:

  • July 22 in Holdrege at the Tri-Basin NRD, 1723 Burlington St.
  • August 4 in Columbus at Central Community College, Room 209 West Education Building, 4500 63 St.
  • August 12 in Gering at the Gering Civic Center, 1050 M St.
  • August 26 in Omaha at Douglas/Sarpy County Extension, Rooms A & B, 8015 W Center Rd.

To register for the free training, contact Amy Seiler, Nebraska Forest Service, at 308-633-1173 or aseiler2@unl.edu.  More information at http://nfs.unl.edu/tree-care-workshops.
