Lincoln, Neb. —The National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at the University of Nebraska (NU) is requesting applications for projects related to its mission: to enable deterrence of, preparedness for and response to strategic national security threats across multiple domains through research and support.
Administered through the NU Collaboration Initiative, which launched its 2023 cycle today, the NSRI independent research and development (IRAD) program provides an opportunity for NU faculty, researchers and students, as well as NSRI researchers, to apply their expertise to challenges faced by the Department of Defense. Potential funding ranges from $10,000 to $150,000 over or up to a two-year period with a maximum single-year award amount of $75,000. The application deadline is January 17, 2023.
"Through this program we lean into our role as a DOD-designated University Affiliated Research Center — bringing forward some of the Nation’s toughest national security challenges to our university colleagues and providing them the resources they need to innovate solutions," said Dr. Joshua Santarpia, NSRI science and technology advisor.
Several priorities have been identified by NSRI leadership within the institute’s program areas of strategic deterrence; chemical and biological defense; and food, agriculture and environment security. The process and program encourage collaboration across disciplines, campuses and among NU and NSRI scientists. Since 2020, $352,000 has been provided for 11 projects. The most recent group of NSRI IRAD projects was announced in August.
