IANR Exemplary Service Award to Barry Shull

East Campus pillars at enterance

IANR facilities director Barry Shull has received the 2014 IANR Exemplary Service Award for exceptional work in facilities management, space management, design and construction. Nominators say Shull’s most significant roles are finding the most effective and cost-efficient designs without sacrificing quality, and being extremely creative in finding ways to use limited space. A tireless worker with a positive attitude and sound judgment, Shull works hard to complete projects economically and on time. Nominators also wrote he constantly achieves more than is initially asked.

Shull’s expertise and approach with others is positive and effective, resulting in openness, communication and positive outcomes, supporters wrote. His collaborations and ideas for construction and renovation improve faculty research and other work, all of which consistently brings value and added capacity to IANR. His other attributes include his talent, knowledge, skills and self-management. He also sets personal goals, monitors his own progress, and always takes time to listen and answer questions. “He gives each assignment his full attention,” was one comment. Others are that Shull constantly achieves more than he was initially asked, and “There is no one more committed to seeing our campus be the most interesting, inviting and innovative place to work, study, and research.”

Shull has been IANR facilities director since November 2005 and started at the university in November 1994. He received the NU KUDOS award in 1996.

Award recipients receive cash awards and certificates. Application materials for these and other IANR awards are at ianr.unl.edu/staff-awards.
