Plant pathology research technologist Lisa Sutton received an IANR 2014 first quarter Outstanding Employee Award. Sutton is the contact for diagnostic services provided by the lab, manages two programs, and provides service to students and the department.  Sutton is the contact for clients, including state agricultural officials and others who depend upon timely reports of diagnostic results.

In unforeseen situations she masterfully juggles schedules of students and staff to satisfy client expectations. “I honestly do not know how she manages to work so efficiently,” wrote her nominator, adding that she pays attention to detail, plans in advance and easily adapts to change. Sutton has organized financial records, improved handling and reporting results of diagnostic samples, and sought new clients.

In 2004 she co-chaired local arrangements for the annual meeting of the Society of Nematologists, which was “regarded as one of the most affordable and enjoyable in the history of the society.” Last year she helped three international interns find beds, dishes and other necessities for an unfurnished apartment. In addition, she coordinates the distinguished lectureship series, named for her longtime colleague, the late Dermot P. Coyne – all on a 0.75 appointment.

Sutton has been in this position since July 2002, having joined the university in November 1981.

Award recipients receive cash awards and certificates. Application materials for these and other IANR awards are at ianr.unl.edu/staff-awards.
